HEADINGLEY: The Yorkshire County Cricket Club has appointed Pakistan’s left-handed batter Shan Masood as the captain for the next edition of the County Championship, club’s coach Ottis Gibson confirmed on Wednesday.
After turning down an offer from Derbyshire earlier this season, the Pakistani batter inked a two-year contract with the Headingley-based club. He will replace England’s Steven Patterson in the role.
Gibson, in a media interaction at Headingley, shared that Pakistan batter Shan, who made a move to Yorkshire from Derbyshire is poised to lead the county side in all competitions next summer amid his two-year-long contract.
“The conversation we’ve had with Shan is that he is going to be club captain going forwards."

“The conversation we’ve had with Shan is that he is going to be club captain going forward,” said Gibson.
“The players know that. Shan is going to be club captain, and he will bring his own style of leadership.”
It is worth noting that, following Yorkshire’s defeat to Gloucestershire, it is uncertain if Shan will lead the side in Division I or Division II. Yorkshire needs a massive favour from Hampshire against second-bottom Warwickshire at Edgbaston tomorrow after suffering their sixth defeat in the last eight games of the summer.
